Residential Medication Support Specialist

Full-Time
Pay Rate: $20/hour
Location: Orange, MA
Schedule: Mon-Thu 6a-2p, Fri 10a-6p

Position Summary:
The Residential Medication Support Specialist is a direct-care staff role responsible for supporting the safe and compliant management of medications within a residential substance use disorder (SUD) program. This position ensures proper storage, handling, and documentation of medications in accordance with BSAS standards, while assisting clients with medication self-administration as appropriate and coordinating with providers, pharmacies, and program staff.

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Medication Management:
    • Provide training to new staff and cross-trained staff on medication administration, policies, and procedures.
    • Work with clients and their providers to coordinate refills, medication changes, and support consults between resident and their provider. 
    • Provide basic support to clients in understanding their medications (e.g., names, purpose, and common side effects). 
    • Document orders for new, changed, and discontinued medication.
    • Monitor medication storage areas, including documentation of refrigeration temperatures. 
    • Assist with oversight, documentation, and proper disposal of medications in accordance with program procedures. 
    • Oversee intake of new medications, verify accuracy against prescriptions, and ensure proper documentation per program procedures.
    • Monitors medication being taken by clients.
    • Uploads medication sheets to clients' electronic file. 
    • Document and report any medication errors to a supervisor, and complete internal incident report to submit to the Program Manager. 
  • Program Operations:
    • Respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.
    • Maintain environmental, safety and room checks in accordance with policy and procedure.
    • Medication counts at the start and end of each shift.
    • Document clear and objective shift, individual and quick notes.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all client and organizational information in full accordance with applicable federal and state regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 governing substance use disorder records. 
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • Previous experience working with substance addiction population preferred.
  • Medication Specialist training certificate approved by BSAS required (or willingness to obtain during orientation), with annual recertification thereafter.
  • CPR, First Aid, and Narcan certification required (or willingness to obtain prior to or upon hire).
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, held for a minimum of six months, and an acceptable driving record in accordance with agency policy and applicable state regulations is preferred.
