Description of Work
The Office of Residential Life at Elizabeth City State University is seeking responsible, vigilant, and professional Residential Life Security Specialist (RLSS) to support the safety and security of students residing in our on-campus residence halls. This is a temporary, part-time overnight position working from 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM, with shifts available Monday through Sunday. The RLSS will be stationed within a residence hall and is expected to contribute to a safe and welcoming community through regular patrols, reporting, and assistance with security concerns.
- Conduct regular duty rounds throughout the assigned residence hall(s) to monitor safety and security.
- Complete and maintain accurate duty logs and reports.
- Secure entrances, exits, doors, and windows during and after curfew hours.
- Monitor the residence hall front desk and control access to the building.
- Answer incoming phone calls and respond professionally to inquiries or requests for assistance.
- Assist University Police in investigations, emergency response, and other safety-related matters.
- Complete incident reports using Maxient or similar software.
- Respond to emergencies (e.g., fire alarms, medical issues, disturbances) in accordance with university protocols.
- Investigate and report suspicious activity or unauthorized individuals on premises.
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience in security, residential life, or emergency response preferred.
- Ability to remain alert, observant, and responsive throughout overnight shifts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to always maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
- Familiarity with campus safety procedures and reporting systems (e.g., Maxient) a plus.
- Must be able to walk for extended periods and respond quickly in emergency situations.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation Management Preferences
Experience working in a residence hall setting is preferred
