Work Environment: This position will spend time at the program site and have an independent (private) office. Travel:  5 days on-site per week and as needed. Flexibility in the event coverage is needed at the Front Desks during off-hours may be required.

About Barrier Free Living (BFL)

Barrier Free Living (BFL) is dedicated to helping New Yorkers with disabilities live independently in the community.  Through its various programs, BFL provides a broad range of residential and nonresidential services to disabled survivors of domestic violence, transitional shelter to the disabled homeless, and outreach to physically disabled individuals with mental health and/or chemical addiction issues.  Services include case management; housing placements; independent living skills training; occupational therapy; short and long-term individual counseling; advocacy within the medical, mental health, child welfare, law enforcement, and criminal justice systems; and referrals to outside services.

 About Barrier Free Living Apartments

Barrier Free Living Apartments (BFLA) is a supportive housing program. BFLA offers services to vulnerable and needy populations with disabilities who are survivors of domestic violence, specifically, homeless disabled adults and disabled veterans and for families who have a head of household with a disabling medical condition. BFLA’s program is designed and equipped to serve people with physical disabilities. The facility is located in the South Bronx. There are two buildings: a 70-unit studio apartment building for adult singles and a 50-unit apartment building for families. BFLA’s supportive housing program is located on Cypress Avenue and East 138th/139th Streets.

Role Summary  

The Resident Aide Manager will work under the supervision of the Program Director and is responsible for the overall operation of the front desk security staff which includes the safety of staff, tenants, and visitors. The Resident Aide Manager directly supervises all Resident Aides for all shifts by conducting regular supervisions, provides shift coverage, with possibility of flexible, rotating shift schedule, and weekend coverage. The Resident Aide Manager provides on-call building/operations related emergency coverages.

Responsibilities

Oversees the overall operation of the front desk of the single building security area and as needed in the family building in the absence of the assigned resident aide manager

After hours on-call responsibilities required

Responsible for the training and supervision of the Full Time /Part Time /Per Diem Residential Aides.

Reports on building/operation related issues to our program partners  

Creates and amends front desk schedule

Responsible for coverage of call outs and time off requests

Reviews daily logs in FAMCare data system

Ensures front desk staff follow all safety procedures which include the entry/exiting of individuals, facility rounds, and documentation of concerns, and incidents

Reviews front desk incident reports to ensure accurate documentation of facts and follow up all incidents and reports to Program Director and Director of Social Services

Assists in the up keeping and maintenance of all front desk systems including ID systems, cameras and monitors

Assists in emergency response and crisis management as needed

Responsible for maintaining a training log for staff  

Responsible for fire drills and maintenance of fire drill log book

Provide supervision to all residential aides and complete performance evaluations

Participates in all required training/meetings such as CPR, First Aide, CPI, DV 101, Disability and ADA regulations

Assists BFL HR Department with interviews for Resident Aide positions and assist with checking references

Works closely with the Program Director, Director of Social Services and social worker staff

Assists with light housekeeping tasks such as snow removal, sweeping, mopping, trash removal as needed Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED required, Associate Degree or equivalent experience preferred

Minimum of two-year prior experience working in a residential setting  

Supervisory experience required

Strong oral communication skills and strong writing competency required 

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure

Experience working with people with disabilities highly desirable

Spanish or other non-English language skills and/or American Sign Language skills a plus 

Computer Literate a plus.
