The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) position is a full-time, live-in role that has primary responsibility for managing the daily operations of multiple apartment style residence halls within a residential area. Key functions include student staff selection, training, and supervision, student conduct adjudication, policy enforcement, student leadership development, and community building through programmatic efforts.

The RLC is expected to implement a student development approach and in all aspects of the position be guided by the core values of respect, education, care, and service. The RLC will work with and collaborate with the Senior Residence Life Coordinator (SRLC), Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life, Director of Housing & Residence Life, as well as other administrative staff.

Job Duties

Responsibility Area: Supervision of Student Staff\ Duties:

The RLC is responsible for assisting with the recruitment, hiring, and training of RA student staff members for their area. The RLC is responsible for supervising the RA student staff in all facets of their positions and will conduct regular one on one meetings with them for individual feedback and ongoing training. The RLC will assist with the development and delivery of training at the outset of the fall and spring semesters for the student staff members within HRL.

The RLC is responsible for serving in the on-call duty rotation, for assisting student paraprofessional staff members who are responding to students in crisis, facilities issues and or intervening in instances where the UNO Student Code of Conduct has been violated. As part of the on-call duty rotation, the RLC will assist with completing regular rounds of their assigned area with student staff, advise student staff on appropriate procedures, and directly liaise with University Officials and/or on-site emergency response personnel to direct both staff and residents during crisis situations. The RLC is responsible for notifying the appropriate parties within Housing & Residence Life when there are emergency issues associated with students or the residence hall facilities that require additional intervention or follow-up beyond what can be provided by the live-in residence life staff.

The RLC, in coordination with other live-in professional and para-professional student staff, is responsible for monitoring the physical, mental, academic, and emotional health of the residents in their area. They are tasked with intervening in all instances where residents may pose a threat to themselves or others in the community and for making the appropriate referrals to agencies, or individuals that specialize in assisting students experiencing physical, mental, academic, and/or emotional crises. The RLC will meet with students one on one, in pairs or small groups to address emerging issues, to investigate potential concerns or to mediate conflicts between roommates. The RLC will receive training and be certified for basic mediation skills. The RLC will receive training and be certified as a Health and Wellness Coach. The RLC will ensure appropriate follow-up and support occurs for all students in their area following reports or documentations of concerns.

The RLC is responsible for the completion of all administrative tasks associated with daily management and building administration for their assigned area. This includes ensuring the para-professional student staff for which the RLC has direct supervisory responsibility are completing administrative tasks appropriately. This also includes regular audits of rosters and administrative systems to ensure efficient operation of HRL processes. The RLC will manage administrative components of room moves in their assigned area. The RLC may also assist with major occupancy change processes during fall semester opening and end of the year move outs as well as some responsibilities with summer conference housing moves and assignments. Additional administrative tasks are associated with the management and tracking of expenditures and budgets for programs and events within their assigned area; tracking programming; assessing and reporting on the efficacy of HRL programmatic offerings; and generating reports for various stakeholders within and outside of HRL.

The RLC will serve as a conduct officer for their area and adjudicate cases where residence hall students have violated the Student Code of Conduct or Housing & Residence Life policies. As a conduct officer, the RLC liaises with the Office of Conduct and Community Standards to refer cases and input information into the Maxient incident reporting system, generate notifications and other conduct hearing-related paperwork and to ensure timely adjudication of policy violations hearings. In addition, the RLC is responsible for determining conditions, sanctions, and restrictions (based on the preponderance of the evidence reviewed during the conduct hearing) and for monitoring completion of sanctions and restrictions.

The RLC will coordinate one Themed Community within HRL. This will include partnering with the campus department supporting each community to provide opportunities for connection and support to the residents in each community. The RLC will advise the student leadership organization (Leadership Involvement Team) within their assigned village. The RLC will assist with other departmental tasks as assigned, which may include tasks related to administration of residence life initiatives, coordination of departmental educational and social programs, or management of student conduct and behavioral case management.

Required Experience

Familiarity with staff supervision, student support, student conduct violations, and proficiency in PC-based applications.
