Unit: School of Medicine Department: Neurology
Duties & Responsibilities The lab technician will conduct and assist with animal work, including surgery, drug administration, behavior tests, perfusion, and maintaining experimental cell cultures. Assist other staff and students in the completion of protocols such as tissue processing, histological, and immunohistological staining, Western blotting, microscopic analysis, etc. Other responsibilities include ordering supplies, maintaining the inventory of laboratory supplies, and disposal of biohazardous materials.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications A Bachelors degree in Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field is required. Experience in a biology research lab is preferred. Experience in working with experimental models and cell cultures. Background in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology. Ability to work independently. Proficient in basic computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets. Good written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of safe laboratory practices is required for all job duties.
