Position Title: Research Technician

General Function (Description): The technician will be involved in an NIH-funded project to develop novel therapeutic agents for advanced cancers. Responsibilities of this position will include multiple aspects of scientific research including data collection, assay development and execution, and project management. Prior experience with rodent work is highly preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform laboratory maintenance duties such as autoclaving, dishwashing, and technical equipment maintenance. • Maintain inventory of chemicals, media and other supplies. • Proper disposal of biohazardous waste. • Maintain a clean and sterile lab environment. • Assist with research-associated administration duties such as package shipping and receiving.
Data Collection and Analysis:
• Produce and record data, interpreting and analyzing the results of experimental assays. • Organize and present data at lab meetings. • Support submission of data and preliminary results for grants.
Experimental Protocol Design and Execution:
• Assist with the design of experimental protocols. • Perform multiple assays in cell/molecular biology including qPCR, Western Blotting, and immunohistochemistry. • Use light and confocal microscopy to analyze samples. • Prepare drugs and reagents for laboratory and rodent work. • Manage mice/rats and maintain tumor xenograft lines. • Perform tumor growth assays with rodents, perform surgeries, and dissect major tissue when necessary.
Collaboration and Communication:
• Work with multiple investigators within the laboratory. • Professionally communicate with investigators and colleagues concerning the affected workflow, time limitations, and project status.
Training and Mentorship:
• Assist the PI train undergraduate/graduate students on processes and procedures needed. • Assist the PI, postdoctoral fellows, and students in their experiments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidates should have a solid background in biology, chemistry, pharmacology, and animal models. Expertise in laboratory teaching and training is highly desired. Successful candidates should be self-motivated and career-oriented to join an exciting research team consisting of basic researchers, translational scientists, and clinicians.
Minimum Hiring Standards:
Education: B.S. degree in biology, chemistry or the biomedical-related sciences.
Years of Experience Required: One year of laboratory training.
