Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Division of Research and Sponsored Programs DRSP at North Carolina Central University NCCU oversees research activities focusing on acquiring external funding managing grants fostering scholarly work regulatory research compliance and acceleration and commercialization of research-derived innovation. The Division is comprised of research institutes - JLC-BBRI and BRITE as well as the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs and Office of Research Compliance & Technology Transfer.
Primary Purpose of Position
Research Scientist - Community Engagement & Applied Population Healthwill support the programmatic objectives of the Duke- CTSA award.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Experience in community-engaged or participatory research.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
Experience working with rural or underserved communities.
Minimum EducationExperience
Doctorate PhD DrPH ScD or equivalent in Public Health Epidemiology BehavioralSocial Sciences Community Psychology Sociology or related field.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Function Research
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Lead community-engaged research projects rooted in participatory and collaborative approaches.
Co-design community health initiatives and implement evidence-informed interventions.
Conduct community assessments and contribute to program evaluation.
Develop an independent extramurally funded research agenda aligned with community-engaged translational population health.
Serve as co-investigators on multi-institutional projects with NCCU Duke CTSI and community partners.
Function Communication and Teamwork
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Build and sustain partnerships with community organizations local agencies FQHCs and civic groups.
Disseminate findings through practical tools policy briefs and presentations.
Mentor students and community partners in engagement and implementation practices.
Publish peer-reviewed manuscripts and present findings at national forums.
Support NCCUs contributions to the Duke CTSI partnership including workforce development initiatives and collaborative pilot projects.
Function Customer Service and Stakeholder Engagement

Plan and implement community-facing activities health events workshops listening sessions outreach campaigns.
Participate in Duke CTSI translational workforce and community engagement projects.
