Job Summary
In consultation with their Principal Investigator (PI), undertake and execute a program of scientific study culminating in publication. Drives research projects scientifically and determines the course of research as evidenced by leadership, obtaining funding, writing, or other recognition. May not necessarily receive independent resources; however, their contribution is essential to the conceptual/scientific success of the project. They assist their PI in the training and supervision of other laboratory personnel and in a wide variety of administrative tasks, as necessary.

The Research Scientist serves to assist a Principal Investigator in George A. “Doc” Lopez, MD Lab for Regenerative Cell Therapy at the Department of Neurosurgery, Mass General Hospital. Primary responsibilities are to assist with all aspects of cleanroom operations for clinical-grade cell manufacturing, including serving as a primary Operator, verifier, and participating in training and qualification activities pertaining to GMP. Must follow strict protocols pertaining to cell manufacturing in controlled spaces, accurately record procedures and results, perform environmental monitoring, sterile gowning, and cleanroom upkeep, as well as comply with aseptic manufacturing procedures, maintenance of databases used in the lab, maintenance of supplies and inventory. The research scientist may assist with quality control assays, data analysis and summaries, and must have a degree in molecular/cell biology or a related field; must be detail-oriented and able to work independently as needed. The research scientist possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills and works well as part of a team. Experience with stem cell technology and cell and tissue culture is required; experience with Good Manufacturing Practice standards is a plus.
