Position Summary
The Entry-Level Research Engineer supports the development and testing of roll roofing materials, including polymer-modified asphalt systems. This role involves hands-on laboratory work, assisting in compounding materials with polymers and hot asphalt, conducting routine tests, and preparing technical reports. The position is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career engineer looking to build experience in materials research, product development, and industrial testing.

Key Responsibilities
" Materials Preparation & Compounding
o Assist in the formulation and preparation of roll roofing materials using polymers, hot asphalt, and additives.
o Support compounding activities under the guidance of senior engineers or scientists.
o Follow established procedures to ensure safe and consistent material processing.

" Laboratory Testing
o Perform routine physical and mechanical testing on roofing samples (e.g., tensile strength, elongation, softening point).
o Assist with durability and environmental testing such as heat aging, accelerated exposure, and weathering.
o Accurately record test results and observations.

" Data Collection & Reporting
o Compile and organize experimental data for review.

Work Environment
" Safety oriented culture with 5S focus
" Laboratory with exposure to hot materials and industrial equipment, opportunity to visit production facility for prototype trials.
" Requires adherence to safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Experience:
" Relevant experience (internships, co-ops, or academic lab work acceptable).
" Exposure to materials testing or laboratory work is preferred

Technical Skills
" Basic understanding of materials science, polymers, or asphalt/bitumen (coursework acceptable).
" Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment and testing methods.
" Ability to collect, record, and organize data accurately.
" Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and report writing.

Soft Skills
" Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
" Good written and verbal communication skills.
" Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and in a team environment.
" Problem-solving mindset with curiosity about materials and processes.

Preferred Qualifications:
" Internship or coursework related to polymers, asphalt materials, or construction products.
" Familiarity with ASTM or similar testing standards.
" Interest in materials development or industrial research.

Education:
" Bachelor s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field.
