Position Details

Title: Research Associate or Research Scientist Position Description: The Department of Biostatistics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts, has an immediate opening in the Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR) for a PhD-level Research Associate or Research Scientist statistician to work in the ACTG Advancing Clinical Therapeutics Globally for HIV/AIDS and Other Infections network or IMPAACT International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Network.

Research Opportunities --------------------

ACTG and IMPAACT are large NIH-funded collaborative clinical trials networks with international research agendas focused on the treatment and cure of HIV infection and associated co-morbidities in adults and in children, adolescents, and pregnant or breastfeeding women, respectively. A successful applicant will join over 60 statisticians, epidemiologists, and research staff collaborating on the design, monitoring, analysis, and reporting of Phase I through Phase IV clinical trials, diagnostic studies, and observational studies.

Responsibilities -----------------

  • Join over 60 statisticians, epidemiologists, and research staff collaborating on the design, monitoring, analysis, and reporting of clinical trials and observational studies
  • Provide the statistical expertise for and lead the statistical work on studies, including mentoring and supervising other staff
  • Develop a self-initiated research agenda related to their HIV and infectious diseases research projects
  • Take a leadership role in ACTG or IMPAACT and other infectious diseases projects
  • Work as part of collaborative teams in designing, conducting, and reporting results from clinical trials and observational studies

Requirements ------------

  • Doctoral degree in biostatistics or related field
  • Research Associate position available for new doctoral graduates
  • Research Scientist appointment requires at least two years of clinical trials or related applied experience beyond a doctorate and a publication record beyond thesis papers
  • Applicants should demonstrate evidence of the ability to conduct collaborative and methodological research and work independently in the design, conduct, monitoring, and analysis of trial and observational studies
  • Applicants should also demonstrate strong quantitative and communication skills and have interest in assuming a leadership role

Additional Qualifications -------------------------

  • Experience with SAS and multi-center clinical trials is a plus
  • Established interests in infectious diseases, particularly HIV or tuberculosis, or implementation science would be particularly welcome

Salary Range ------------

  • Research Associate: $128,000 - $135,000
  • Research Scientist: $145,000 - $175,000

Compensation for the selected candidate will be determined by several factors, including years of experience, relevant training or qualifications, area of education, trainings, scholarship, and professional achievements.
