Job Description Summary:
The Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Physical Activity and Weight Management, focuses on obesity prevention and treatment. This individual contributes to the Division's nationally recognized research portfolio by leading and supporting studies in obesity prevention and treatment. The role includes advancing physical activity and nutrition strategies across the lifespan, with attention to individuals with typical and atypical development in both urban and rural settings.
The Division has a major research mission supported by The National Institutes of Health, industry, and private foundations. It also supports a medically supervised weight management clinic that provides robust clinical research programs for individuals seeking weight management and health enhancement (Kansas Weight Management Programs, KWMP). In addition to individual faculty research awards, the Division is part of two NIH Funded research centers; The Kansas Center for Metabolism and Obesity Research and The Nutrition and Obesity Research Centers- NORC Coordinating Center.

Job Duties:
Administration: Manage the day-to-day activities for the Kansas Weight Management Programs. This includes strategic planning, personnel management, budget, continuing education.
Behavioral Strategies and Program Expansion: Implement behavioral strategies and oversee program expansion at KUMC, Greater Kansas City, and rural Kansas.
Integration with Medical Conditions: Develop and integrate KWMP with medical conditions for specialty programs (e.g., liver, cardiovascular).
Clinical Trials: Develop and supervise externally funded clinical trials through KWMP.
Research: Develop and maintain an externally funded research agenda. Present and publish scientific findings in peer-reviewed forums. Develop collaborations at KUMC/KU and other academic and private entities.
Education and Service:
Lead the behavioral component of KWMP. Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career investigators. Participate in thesis and dissertation committees as appropriate. Serve on editorial boards and grant review panels.

Required Qualifications:
Education: PhD or equivalent in energy balance, obesity prevention and treatment, exercise physiology, exercise behavior, psychology, nutrition, public health, epidemiology, or a related field relevant to weight management.
Work Experience: Three (3) years' experience with energy balance and weight management for prevention and treatment of overweight and obesity in both clinical and research environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Work Experience: Business experience with budget and personnel management in the private sector.
