Research Assistant I - Microbiology

• Analyze of the growth and development of malaria parasites using in vitro cell culture techniques.
• Perform standard molecular biology experiments, DNA extraction, Polymerase Chain Reaction, gel electrophoresis, and plasmid construction and isolation.
• Perform standard immunoassays, including flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy and

immunoblotting.

• Isolation of human peripheral white blood cell populations for transcript analysis.
• Evaluate and interpret laboratory test results.
• Maintain clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks.
• Perform data entry for research projects and maintain databases.
• Laboratory management, including monitoring and ordering supplies, and other duties as assigned.

HJF is seeking a Research Assistant I is available to study malaria immunity and transmission in Dr. Kim Williamson's laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Uniformed Services University of Health Services (USUHS) located in Bethesda, Maryland. Projects include a comprehensive evaluation of the immune response to repeat malaria infections, including single-cell sequencing and Ig repertoire analysis, as well as an ongoing field study in Ghana monitoring parasite development and immunity.
