Job Summary
In collaboration with senior faculty and personnel, participates as skilled individual contributor and/or lead researcher on one or more research projects, serving as expert in specialized area. Responsible for administrative, financial, personnel and planning aspects of project. Designs instrumentation, theoretical models, equipment or other vehicles for data gathering and analysis. Investigates, modifies and applies new procedures, techniques or applications of technology, integrating new findings in field to study. Conducts research in area of expertise, with results used in broader research project. Has oversight for development of data collection instruments. Monitors integrity of data collection and use of protocols and procedures; conducts data analysis. Participates in writing research proposals, reports for funding agencies and articles for publication. Presents results of study at professional meetings and other forums. Has oversight for researchers and staff engaged in day-to-day operations. Collaborates with other researchers on long-range plans for project/program, acting as expert in specialized area. Administers programs for visiting scholars, researchers and fellows. Monitors expenditures of funds and grants. May collaborate on new curricular offerings and course instruction. Employees typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities. Primary activities and decision-making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree.
Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.

Modes of Work
This hybrid position is eligible only for in state remote work. Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Additional Information
This is a term-limited appointment. At the end of the 2- year term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
