Job Description

The Repository Technician is responsible for the receipt, inventory, storage, and shipping of clinical agents, chemical compounds, and biological specimens to clinical sites and laboratories. Materials are stored at temperatures ranging from ambient to -196°C and may have hazardous properties, requiring strict adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory procedures. This role uses database applications and standard precautionary practices to work independently, communicate effectively, and exercise sound judgment. The position may require occasional travel, up to approximately 25%, to nearby operational sites.

Responsibilities

• Receive biological specimens, chemical compounds, clinical agents, and investigational products in accordance with established procedures and customer requirements.
• Verify the quality, type, and quantity of materials received and confirm that appropriate documentation, such as packing lists, is present and accurate.
• Pick, pack, sort, arrange, count, store, and accurately process items for storage and shipment to clinical sites and laboratories.
• Provide shipping, receiving, storage, and order fulfillment services while sustaining a high level of quality to ensure customers receive accurate products within requested timeframes.
• Weigh dry chemical compounds as required for storage or distribution.
• Aliquot liquid biological samples or products following standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.
• Perform general documentation management, including generating, reviewing, archiving, and destroying records as appropriate.
• Work in warehouse and repository environments under various temperatures ranging from ambient to -196°C, including use of -80°C freezers and dry ice.
• Maintain inventory accuracy using database applications, inventory systems, and shipping software to support daily operations.
• Assure compliance with cGMP CFR Parts 210 and 211 and company quality systems, and follow Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requirements where applicable.
• Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs), facility safety guidelines, and universal precautions when handling hazardous or infectious agents.
• Follow general instructions for routine work and detailed instructions for new projects to complete assigned tasks accurately and on schedule.
• Recognize deviations from accepted practice and escalate or correct issues in alignment with quality and safety standards.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external clients under the guidance of experienced professional or technical staff.
• Maintain strong attendance performance and be ready to start work on time each day to meet operational schedules.
• Participate in training through one-on-one instruction, on-the-job training (OJT), and company-generated Standard Training Protocols (STPs) and other training documentation.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with data entry in an operational or warehouse environment.
• Experience in shipping and receiving, preferably in a repository, laboratory, or cold chain setting.
• Basic digital literacy, including the ability to navigate inventory systems, Microsoft Office applications, and shipping software.
• Ability to consistently and independently follow policies, procedures, instructions, and schedules.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.
• Good interpersonal and customer service skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to recognize deviations from accepted practice and respond appropriately.
• Capability to follow general instructions for routine tasks and detailed instructions for new or specialized projects.
• Ability to work in cold environments, including exposure to -80°C freezers, dry ice, and liquid nitrogen.
• Physical ability to walk, stand, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds on a continuous basis, and to routinely push and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness and ability to perform highly repetitive work while maintaining accuracy and quality.
• Reliability in attendance and punctuality to support operational needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Certified Pharmacy Technician credential preferred.
• Prior experience working with cold chain operations, including dry ice and -80°C freezers, is strongly preferred.
• Previous experience supporting repository operations or similar regulated environments.
• Knowledge of universal precautions and general laboratory practices preferred.
• Familiarity with quality assurance and quality control principles preferred.
• Experience working under cGMP guidelines and FDA-regulated environments is advantageous.
• Demonstrated track record of following policies, procedures, and instructions independently.
• Flexibility to adapt to varying schedules, hours, and overtime based on business needs.
• Ability to travel up to approximately 25% to nearby division sites as required.

Work Environment

This role is based in a warehouse and repository environment that supports clinical and laboratory operations. Work is performed in cold conditions ranging from ambient temperature down to -196°C, with regular exposure to -80°C freezers, dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, and potentially hazardous or infectious agents. Employees experience marked changes in temperature and must follow universal precautions, facility safety guidelines, and SOPs at all times. The work is highly repetitive and requires continuous walking, standing, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as routinely pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds. Team members may occasionally sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl to complete tasks. The schedule is primarily first shift (approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), with the need for flexibility to work varying hours and overtime as business demands. Travel between nearby division sites, including locations such as Rockville and surrounding areas, may be required and will be communicated in advance. The environment emphasizes safety, quality, and adherence to regulatory standards, and provides structured training through one-on-one instruction, on-the-job training, and formal training protocols to support success in the role.

This is a Contract position based out of Rockville, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
