Big Companies Reporter

MarketWatch is seeking a curious and ambitious reporter to join its companies team to cover the business of the major corporations that form the backbone of the U.S. economy - from the strategies they pursue to the financials that move markets and the customers they serve. Youll cover some of the biggest U.S. corporations and the financial forces driving their stocks, earnings and consumer relationships. That includes household names such as Walmart and Costco, industrial giants like GE and Caterpillar, and consumer finance leaders including Visa and American Express.

This is a high-profile position that requires ambition and an entrepreneurial spirit. You will need the range to view the economy through a wide lens and the rigor to dig into topics like major bankruptcies, how policies out of Washington affect sectors of the economy and how shifts in consumer behavior reshape corporate strategy (and vice versa). Can you break news, provide smart analysis and identify trends while explaining to readers what it all means for the economy and consumers? Then this is the ideal role for you.

Youll publish articles on earnings and stock performance, but youll also go beyond the daily news cycle and drive enterprise reporting on issues that matter.

Responsibilities:

• Cover breaking news on major U.S. companies with urgency and insight • Pitch and produce enterprise stories that go beyond headlines • Interview executives, analysts and industry experts to surface trends • Analyze SEC filings and distill quarterly corporate results for a broad audience • Collaborate with editors, visuals and other teams to produce high-impact journalism

Qualifications:

• At least 2-5 years of covering business or financial news • Fluency in investment terminology and business concepts • Impeccable news judgement and an ability to identify smart, distinctive angles • Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate and engaging stories • A commitment to rigorous, reader-first reporting

About the Role/MarketWatch:

Youll join a newsroom that helps people understand how money moves the world - and how to make smarter decisions about it. Youll write accessible, daily stories and craft features that anticipate or explain major corporate, investing and consumer trends. Youll be part of a small, collaborative team of writers and report to MarketWatchs Companies Editor.

Benefits:

Our Benefits include:

• Comprehensive Healthcare and Insurance Plans • Paid Time Off • Retirement Plans • Lifestyle, Wellness and Family Care Programs • Education Benefits • Family Care Benefits & Caregiving Support • Commuter Transit Program • Subscription Discounts • Employee Referral Program
