Assistant Controller | Remote within New England | Venture Capital

 

Our team is working with a leading Venture Capital fund based in Boston, looking to hire an Assistant Controller for their growing team. Reporting into the Controller, the role will support fund accounting and investor operations, including quarterly close processes, valuations, capital activity, income allocations, and fee calculations. Responsibilities include coordinating capital calls and distributions, managing cash activity, collaborating with outsourced fund administrators, and assisting with U.S. GAAP financial reporting and annual audits. The position also partners closely with the investment team, supports investor relationship management, and contributes to process improvement initiatives through automation and scalable workflow enhancements. Additionally, the role assists with tax-related reporting, including K-1 review support and other ad hoc projects as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform quarterly close process, including valuations

  • Process investor capital activity, income allocations, and fees

  • Coordination of capital calls/distributions and related cash management

  • Collaborate with and manage an outsourced fund administrator

  • Design scalable, repeatable, and adaptable processes through automation and/or implementation of new applications

  • Assist with annual US GAAP financial statement preparation and audit process

  • Act as a liaison to the Investment team

  • Perform other special projects as requested

  • Demonstrate baseline understanding of US tax reporting, including K-1 reviews

  • Assist with managing investor relationships

 

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree, preferably in accounting or finance

  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Excel; familiarity with programming languages or ability to create macros is a plus

  • 6-10 years of experience in fund accounting, familiarity with diverse portfolios is a plus (private company and fund investments)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and documentation skills (experience with investor/client relations a plus)
