Who are we looking for?

As a Facility Based Remediation Field Technician, you will support a diversity of projects in challenging and unique settings. Working with the Environmental Contamination Assessment and Remediation group in our Sacramento office, this position offers a variety of projects throughout California. You will work diligently as an integral member of the GHD team to deliver meaningful information to our clients. You will interface directly with clients, engage with contractors, and be largely responsible for your own work, becoming a trusted point of contact for our clients. Duties will evolve with experience, and no day will be just like the last.

This position is primarily based at a former industrial facility in Stockton, CA

Responsibilities

  • System Operations & Troubleshooting: Operate, maintain, and optimize a variety of remediation systems (e.g., groundwater extraction and treatment, soil vapor extraction [SVE], and dual-phase extraction [DPE]). Perform system start-up, diagnostics, and troubleshooting to maximize uptime and treatment efficiency.
  • Environmental Sampling & Field Data Collection: Collect high-quality samples of groundwater, surface water, soil, soil vapor, and treatment system process streams in accordance with project requirements and regulatory protocols. Ensure proper documentation, chain-of-custody, and data integrity.
  • Field Documentation & Compliance Tracking: Maintain detailed field logs, O&M records, and inspection checklists. Prepare clear, defensible documentation to support regulatory reporting and demonstrate system performance and compliance.
  • Health, Safety & Field Leadership: Lead daily tailgate safety briefings and actively promote a strong safety culture in the field. Identify hazards, implement controls, and ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with HSE policies and site-specific safety plans.
  • Contractor Coordination & Oversight: Monitor subcontractors and field activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, work plans, and regulatory requirements.
  • Data Interpretation & System Optimization: Review field and system performance data to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and support optimization of remediation system performance. Communicate findings and recommend adjustments to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Regulatory Awareness & Field Implementation: Apply project work plans and regulatory requirements in the field, ensuring activities align with applicable standards and permit conditions.
  • Continuous Improvement & Field Innovation: Identify opportunities to improve field workflows, system performance, and data collection practices. Provide practical feedback based on field experience to enhance project delivery and system reliability.
  • Workflow Ownership & Performance Accountability: Manage day-to-day field priorities, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. Take ownership of deliverables and maintain high standards of quality and productivity.

Education

  • Associate's degree in physical science, mechanical systems, or related field (relevant on-the-job experience may be considered in place of degree)

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience specifically in remediation and Operations & Maintenance
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong mechanical diagnostic skills and aptitude
  • Ability to work independently effectively and efficiently to ensure equipment is operating within normal limits
  • Willingness to travel for up to a week at a time
  • Adept at working with a multidisciplinary team in a diversity of challenging conditions
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for discrete periods of time
  • Experience with general construction and field safety protocols and equipment
  • Ability to analyze field readings, data and operating parameters to optimize system operations
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Must be able to comply with GHD and our client's drug free workplace policies
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and ability to prepare comprehensive reports
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification preferred

Salary Range: $ 36.00-$ 57.00 (hourly) based on experience.
