The Stanford Health Care 3D and Quantitative Imaging Laboratory (3DQ Lab) is a specialized interdisciplinary center within the Stanford Department of Radiology. Its core mission is to develop and apply innovative software and visualization techniques to analyze medical imaging data. These methods directly translate complex 2D data into actionable clinical models.
The lab leverages advanced image-processing platforms to support multiple medical specialties, including cardiothoracic surgery, oncology, neurosurgery, and pediatrics.
3D & 4D Visualization: Converts standard CT and MRI scans into multiplanar reconstructions, volume-rendered graphics, and virtual endoscopies. The lab uses 4D temporal rendering to assess cardiac and anatomical structures actively in motion.
The TRAC Program: The Tumor Response Assessment Criteria (TRAC) team standardizes oncology tracking. They track the precise longitudinal changes of tumor sizes over time across multi-interval follow-ups to map overall treatment effectiveness.
Surgical Navigation Support: Technologists prepare and manipulate digital models that integrate directly into operating room navigation systems, giving neurosurgeons real-time guidance during procedures.
Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement (TMVR): Provides comprehensive volumetric measurements and mapping of the venous delivery pathway, helping cardiologists predict post-procedure device performance.
Medical 3D Printing & Modeling: Segments complex anatomies to print physical patient-specific surgical guides, custom orthotics, and full-scale bone structures for custom medical hardware configuration.
A Brief Overview
