The Reliability Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for improving and sustaining the mechanical reliability of plant equipment in a sand processing facility. This role focuses on proactive and preventive maintenance, troubleshooting chronic issues, and implementing long-term solutions on key assets such as the dryer, mills, conveyors, pumps, and screening equipment. The Reliability Mechanic works closely with operations, maintenance, and EHS to maximize equipment uptime, reduce unplanned downtime, and support a safe, efficient, and stable process.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED Technical certificate or trade school in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, or related field preferred 3-5 years of experience as an Industrial Mechanic / Maintenance Technician in a heavy industrial, mining, or process environment (aggregates, cement, sand, or similar) preferred Experience working with dryers, mills, and conveyor systems strongly preferred

Technical Skills

Strong troubleshooting skills on rotating equipment (motors, gearboxes, pumps, fans, conveyors) Proficient in reading mechanical drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals Experience with: • Bearing installation and lubrication practices • Gearbox repair and replacement • Coupling and belt alignment • Welding and basic fabrication (preferred) • Basic understanding of vibration or condition monitoring tools (preferred) • Familiarity with CMMS (e.g., SAP, Maximo, eMaint, or similar) for work orders and PMs

Behavioral Competencies

Strong commitment to safety and risk reduction Reliable, organized, and able to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with maintenance, operations, and engineering Problem-solver mindset with a focus on long-term solutions, not just quick fixes

Equipment Reliability & Maintenance

Perform preventive and predictive maintenance (PM/PdM) on critical equipment, including: • Rotary or fluid bed dryers • Mills (ball/rod/vertical), crushers, and classifiers • Belt conveyors, bucket elevators, screw conveyors, and feeders • Screens, cyclones, fans, blowers, and baghouses • Pumps, gearboxes, bearings, and couplings

Inspect, adjust, and repair mechanical components such as belts, chains, sprockets, bearings, seals, and shafts Perform precision alignment (laser or dial indicator) on motors, pumps, and gearboxes Execute vibration, temperature, and visual inspections to identify early signs of failure and recommend corrective actions

Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis

Respond to equipment breakdowns, systematically diagnose mechanical issues, and implement effective repairs Perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) on repeated or critical failures and recommend permanent corrective actions Collaborate with operators and maintenance staff to understand equipment history and operating conditions contributing to failures

Reliability Improvements & Planning

Identify opportunities to improve equipment design, lubrication practices, PM tasks, and spare parts strategies Recommend modifications to equipment, guarding, or components to enhance reliability, maintainability, and safety Assist in planning and scheduling maintenance work, including ordering parts, preparing work packages, and coordinating with operations on downtime windows

Documentation & CMMS

Accurately document work performed, findings, and parts used in the ComputerizedMaintenance Management System (CMMS) Maintain up-to-date equipment histories, PM records, and inspection reports Help develop and update standard work instructions, PM checklists, and lubrication routes for critical equipment

Safety & Compliance

Follow all site safety policies, procedures, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements at all times Participate in safety observations, audits, and incident investigations as needed Ensure all maintenance tasks are performed in a manner that protects employees, equipment, and the environment (housekeeping, dust control, guarding, etc.)

Collaboration & Training

Work closely with operators to understand equipment performance and coach them on basic care and early defect detection Provide guidance and mentoring to other mechanics and helpers on reliability best practices Participate in and sometimes lead reliability-focused meetings, such as bad-actor reviews, PM optimization sessions, or weekly maintenance planning meetings
