Job Summary:

The Release of Information Specialist in the Health Information Management department (formally known as The Medical Records Department) is responsible for screening medical record requests and authorizations to assure they meet all legal & regulatory requirements, per designated release type; completing release of information requests electronically, including generating letters & invoices, as necessary; logging release of information as required by HIPAA; invoicing for billable requests per procedure; communicating with practitioners to obtain requested information (i.e. Physical Therapy, Physicians, Case Management); preparing and certifying medical record subpoenas for court; and other duties as deemed appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates degree in Health Information Technology and RHIT or eligible required. Must be able to work independently and have the ability to prioritize work. Excellent verbal/written communication, analytical, and computer skills required. *RHIT eligible candidates must obtain RHIT within one year of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

RHIT with one year of medical records experience in an acute care setting preferred.

Work Days:

Monday - Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm. Some holidays; no weekends
