As an integral part of the educational mission of the University of Florida, the Reitz Union, impacts the student experience by providing a foundation of engagement opportunities that enhance campus life. The Reitz Union Experience (RUX) Student Assistant is responsible for the execution of Reitz Union programs and events, such as watch parties for sporting events, esports tournaments, karaoke, and more.

Classification Minimum Requirements:

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.

Summer and Wednesday availability is required.

Job Description:
 
Student employees for this position must:
  • Be a current UF degree seeking student registered at a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester
  • Respond to and assist with emergency situations and building evacuations per department procedures or as instructed by building management staff
  • Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining a high level of professionalism
  • Demonstrate a desire and willingness to learn in a fast-paced team-oriented environment
  • Establish an exemplary work ethic by being proactive, self-motivated, and dependable
  • Participate in all scheduled meetings, trainings, and evaluations
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and academic breaks, as needed
  • Act as an ambassador for all areas within the Reitz Union, as well as the University of Florida, providing accurate information and campus resources
Position Specific Responsibilities:
  • Functions as a team or independently to setup and tear down equipment, tables, or furniture needed for events and programs
  • Acts as event staff, performing duties like event check-in, passing out promotional items, crowd management, audio-visual equipment operation, and more
  • General cleaning and organizational duties, including picking up trash as needed, returning equipment to proper storage areas, cleaning as needed, restocking supplies, etc
  • Communicates with managers, noting problems that arise during shifts, general success of events, or any other information pertinent to the operation of the RUX team
  • Provide support for Gator Market days (approx. 4 Wednesday's per semester) to ensure efficient operations
    • Assist outside vendors with locating their table and provide directions for loading, unloading, and parking
    • Assist in ensuring and enforcing that all vendors comply with established Gator Market and university policies
  • Completes all training requirements upon being hired in a timely fashion
  • Ability to commit to working 10 or more hours per week
    • Please note this role is scheduled on an “as needed” basis. Some weeks may require more hours than others and scheduling can be sporadic
  • Must be physically able to lift a minimum of 45 pounds
  • Other duties as assigned
Expected Salary:

$14.00/HR

Preferred:

Although no experience is necessary and all training is provided, we would prefer for all student employees in the Reitz Union to possess:

  • Previous experience with customer service or event staff roles
  • Proficiency with verbal and written communication
  • Physically able to perform tasks related to job duties
  • Ability to work independently
