The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) is a state agency dedicated to helping Mississippians with disabilities to live and work independently. MDRS serves through four major programs: Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind (VRB), Office of Special Disability Programs (OSDP), and Disability Determination Services (DDS). About the Position

This position is with the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS), Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), and is located in Attala County. The official MSPB classification title is Rehabilitation Associate I. The incumbent will perform paraprofessional casework and support service duties to assist Rehabilitation Specialists as they provide vocational rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities who are interested in obtaining employment or retaining current employment. Duties include assisting with case management support functions, maintaining confidential case files, collecting and verifying consumer information, preparing correspondence, scheduling appointments, assisting with referrals and evaluations, supporting consumer purchasing processes, and entering and verifying information in the electronic case management system. The position requires strong communication, organization, confidentiality, computer proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to manage priorities while supporting timely services for individuals served through the vocational rehabilitation program.

What youll need to be Successful

To be successful in this position, the applicant should have a basic understanding of Microsoft Office, experience with case management support functions, and the ability to work as part of a team while meeting deadlines. The successful candidate should be able to maintain confidentiality, manage priorities within time constraints, analyze and interpret financial data, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and plan, organize, prioritize, and coordinate work independently. The successful candidate should also be able to interpret and follow complex policies and procedures, communicate effectively, maintain accurate records, and support timely services for individuals served through the vocational rehabilitation program.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 0-2 years of related experience. Hiring agency's preferred qualifications: The hiring agency prefers applicants with a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one (1) year of full-time clerical work experience in social services, medical services, mental health, training, education, customer service, or a closely related area. Preference may also be given to applicants with experience in case file maintenance, electronic case management systems, appointment scheduling, consumer or client services, correspondence preparation, fiscal or purchasing support, data entry, report preparation, or administrative support in a service-based program.

Characteristics of Work

This is first-level paraprofessional rehabilitation support work involving casework assistance, consumer service support, records maintenance, case documentation, fiscal support, and coordination of services for individuals receiving vocational rehabilitation services.

The incumbent assists professional rehabilitation staff by collecting consumer information, preparing and maintaining case records, scheduling services, coordinating referrals, documenting communication, preparing reports and correspondence, and supporting case activity through the agency's electronic case management system.

Examples of work include creating, maintaining, and reviewing technical case management forms and files for accuracy; collecting consumer information during the intake process; maintaining business relationships with service providers, businesses, consumers, and staff; preparing and reviewing consumer reports on monitored services; assisting with service delivery tasks; using the electronic case management system and agency-supported software programs; collecting, coordinating, and verifying case data; following vocational rehabilitation fiscal policies, procedures, fee schedules, and business practices; initiating, tracking, and monitoring consumer purchasing processes; preparing financial and statistical records and reports; preparing referral forms for evaluations; filing consumer information and agency documents; transcribing correspondence under the direction of the Rehabilitation Specialist; scheduling consumer appointments; authorizing necessary medical diagnostic examinations; preparing Rehabilitation Specialist itineraries for review and signature; documenting communication with service providers and consumers; compiling data for reports; entering and verifying coding and consumer data; preparing correspondence to consumers, families, vendors, and other agencies; and performing related duties as assigned.

Essential functions include providing paraprofessional casework and support services; assisting Rehabilitation Specialists with consumer service delivery; creating, maintaining, and reviewing case management forms and files; collecting, entering, and verifying consumer and case data; maintaining confidential case files and records; preparing reports, correspondence, referral forms, itineraries, and case documentation; scheduling appointments and medical diagnostic examinations; documenting communication with consumers, service providers, vendors, families, and other agencies; assisting with consumer purchasing processes in accordance with applicable fiscal policies and procedures; using the electronic case management system and agency-supported software; maintaining effective working relationships; protecting confidentiality; and performing related rehabilitation support duties as assigned.

Paid Personal Leave and Sick Leave

Full-time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued. Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually.

In accordance with federal law, all employees serving in the armed forces or the military reserves are entitled to 15 days per year for military training.
