Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Job Responsibilities
- Assess, treat, and monitor patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions
- Administer oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, and respiratory treatments
- Operate and monitor mechanical ventilators and other respiratory support equipment
- Perform diagnostic testing including arterial blood gas collection and pulmonary function assessments
- Respond to emergency situations and assist with airway management and resuscitation efforts
- Educate patients and families on respiratory therapies and home care instructions
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop individualized care plans
- Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes in the electronic medical record
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and infection prevention protocols
Education, Licensure & Certification Requirements
- Completion of an Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program Required
- Ohio Medical Board Respiratory Care License Required
- National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Certification Required
- BLS Certification Required (may be obtained during orientation)
- ACLS Certification Required (may be obtained during orientation)
- NRP Certification Required (may be obtained during orientation)
- S.T.A.B.L.E. Certification Required (may be obtained within the first year of employment)
Preferred Experience
- One to three years of Respiratory Therapy experience in a hospital or healthcare setting
- Strong critical thinking and patient assessment skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Experience caring for neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients is a plus
