Job Summary

This is for general surgery and urology.

The Specialty Resource Coordinator - RN is responsible for coordinating assigned surgical specialty services within the Main OR and in the Procedure Center; to function as an expert practitioner (circulator role) whose intuition and skill arise from comprehensive knowledge thoroughly grounded in experience. Monitors the surgery schedule and communicates with surgeons/case schedulers/SPD/materials to assure case preparation is complete for day of surgery. Is responsible for cost effective management of critical resources for their specialty group. Acts as a role model and exhibits professional behavior providing clinical leadership to staff nurses, scrub techs, OR assistants and unit assistants, anesthesia and surgeons. Provides real-time feedback to staff to improve clinical care. Able to assess, intervene and resolve nursing issues and monitor outcomes. Ensures quality care is provided according to hospital and regulatory standards; and use of hospital resources is cost effective. Works collaboratively with the hospital staff, families, and physicians and with other health care professionals to achieve organizational and department goals. Orients new staff to specialty, validates specialty competency and provides periodic specialty education with educator. Engages in Performance Improvement projects. Participates in OR call and holiday call coverage.

Pay Range

Minimum $58.34 Midpoint $77.32 Maximum $96.29

Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.

Experience

  • Required: Minimum three (3) years of operating room experience, which includes at least two (2) years in area specialty.
  • Preferred: Two (2) years of pediatric operating room experience.

Education

  • Required: Associate degree in Nursing - must complete BSN within 2 years of hire
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Training

  • Required: Broad based knowledge of advanced concepts in operating room practices and nursing.

  • Required: Strong clinical knowledge of specialty nursing. Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with standards and respect; advance care through development of new ideas and technology. Effectively solve complex patient care issues; role model positive and professional behavior. Strong verbal and written communication and leadership skills to develop standards of care and procedures and to evaluate the quality of nursing care. Leverage interpersonal relationships and collaboration skills to promote teamwork and exceed customer expectations. Strong analytical and organizational skills to resolve complex patient problems, develop standards of care and procedures, and evaluate the quality of nursing care. Attention to detail, vigilance, poise, and composure in stressful situations.
  • Preferred: Prior experience in progressive clinical, educational, and leadership roles in acute pediatric, encompassing multidisciplinary services and a broad continuum of care preferred.

Licensure

  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); Registered Nurse - CA (RN) Advanced Life Support (ACLS).
  • Preferred: Certified RN - OR (CNOR) - within one year from date of hire.
