Job Description:

The Registered Nurse (RN) has the training and expertise to provide specialized nursing care to patients undergoing oncologic evaluation and radiotherapy in an outpatient setting. The RN works closely with the Radiation Oncology care team to deliver excellent care and patient experience. All assigned duties and responsibilities are to be executed in accordance with the state's RN scope of practice and in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Completes accurate patient assessments and documentation of clinical information for new consultations, established patient visits, and procedures.
  • Schedules and coordinates clinical appointments and procedures as ordered by provider.
  • Provides and documents oncology nurse-patient education.
  • Initiates and discontinues peripheral intravenous lines and implanted port access.
  • Obtains, reviews, and takes appropriate action on laboratory and diagnostic reports.
  • Assists with diagnostic exams and procedures.
  • Measures and documents patient vital statistics.
  • Administers medications and treatments as ordered by provider.
  • Attends interprofessional and multidisciplinary oncology meetings and conferences.
  • Audits, documents, and orders inventory for clinic medications and supplies.
  • Reports appropriate charges for services provided to patients.
  • Promotes prevention of fraud, abuse & waste. Reports instances of fraud, abuse, and required compliance training. Reviews and follows company and clinical policy and procedure.
  • Promptly responds and documents internal and external patient communication (i.e., phone messages, portal communication).
  • Documents patient information in appropriate clinical and business applications with accuracy.
  • Collaborates effectively with team members to coordinate internal and external patient care activities.
  • Facilitates the comfort of patients and visitors and fosters a calm environment.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service, responding promptly to patient and team member requests.
  • Promotes positive patient experience, encouraging patients and involved caregivers to participate in patient satisfaction surveys.
  • Promotes the safety of patients and team members, performing routine disinfection procedures of treatment devices, equipment, and high-contact surfaces, and promptly reporting incidents and unsafe conditions.
  • Participates in the quality/process improvement process.
  • Interacts in an open, cooperative manner with all co-workers to create a positive work climate and promotes high-level professionalism in delivering patient care.
  • Exercises problem-solving and conflict resolution skills when handling patient complaints; refers patient complaints to appropriate designated personnel as needed.
  • Functions as a preceptor to newly hired staff.
  • Adheres to all Tennessee Oncology policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in registered nursing
  • Licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Tennessee
  • Basic life support certification
  • Proficient use of computer technology
  • Professional appearance and communication
  • Dependability
  • Effective task prioritization

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Oncology nursing experience
  • Oncology certified nurse (OCN)
