Registered Nurse, Pre-Op/Post-Op/Operating Room PRN - Open to New Grads!

Job Title: Registered Nurse, Pre-Op/Post-Op/Operating Room

Company: Physicians Surgery Center Location: Hannibal, MO Hours: PRN - you will work up to 3 days per month (typically this is the Monday-Wednesday of one week per month).

During your first month, you will likely work at least one extra day for training, and that date will be TBD. Our office is open Monday-Wednesday 6:30am-7:00pm You will come in at 6:30am every day. On Mondays, you are usually done between 5-7pm; on Tuesdays, you are usually done around 4:30-5:30pm; on Wednesdays, you are usually done around 12-1pm Your shifts may run a little earlier/later as needed. Shift end times are subject to change depending on the surgery schedule for that day. NO late nights or weekends!

Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required
• Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) License required in the state where the worksite is located
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
• Favorable result on Background Check

SUMMARY Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation standards and ASC policies and procedures. This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others who are under his/her direction. Participates in direct patient care and maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ability to supervise and direct patient care in an individual Operating Room.
• Ensures that proper techniques and practices are used in accordance to accepted standards of practice.
• Complies with HIPAA regulations and is knowledgeable of patient rights.
• Performs duties in an ethical and legal manner within the scope of their license as defined by the State.
• Supervises other personnel in the room and directs or assists as necessary.
• Immediately reports and unusual occurrences to charge personnel, documents appropriately in the patient record.
• Demonstrates primary nursing accountability through coordination, communication and continuity of patient care.
• Assess, prioritize, plan and implement patient care in an effective manner.
• Maintains medical records in an accurate and legible manner.
• Participates in continuing education/in-service training as needed, staff meetings, and Q.A.P.I. program.
• Follows Physician orders and directions from management.
• Actively participates in the development of a healthy work environment.
• Assists in training new staff when needed.
• Balances team and individual responsibilities.
• Recognizes each department's significance and works appropriately with other departments.

Circulator Role:

• Performs scrub duties as necessary.
• Maintains count on sponges, needles and instruments to ensure no loss of items according to policy.
• Performs all circulating duties with efficiency.
• Supervises and assists Scrub Nurse as needed.
• Positions patient, prepares operative area, and adjusts table to proper position according to standard policies.
• Has all supplies and equipment in room and provides to team as needed.
• Opens all sterile packs and supplies according to aseptic technique.
• Assists Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, and other personnel as needed.
• Observes patient for changes in condition.
• Reviews Surgeon's preference cards for desired medications and verifies same with Surgeon.
• Ensures all medications are administered and charted according to established policies and procedures.
• Identifies and records patient's response to medication when necessary.
• Cares for specimens and cultures as directed by set policies and procedures.
• Accompanies patient to PACU and gives report to Post-Op Nurse.
• Assists in control and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
• Records use of equipment and method directed.
• Checks rooms, material and equipment for proper care and handling.
• Ensures clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety and aseptic techniques.
• Assists in control of traffic and personnel to ensure proper control of infection and asepsis.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Attendance: Arrives to work area on time and has minimal absences. Observes assigned work schedules and hours.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required
• Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
• One year of previous nursing experience in at least one of the following settings is preferred (but NOT required): Operating Room, surgical, ambulatory surgical center (ASC), Pre/Post-Op, PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical or Telemetry

LICENSES AND CREDENTIALS

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) License required in the state where the worksite is located
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred

SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY

• Should have knowledge of Amkai Office and Amkai Charts Database software
• Knowledge of patient monitoring and emergency equipment
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
• Printer, copier, telephone and fax

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• This role requires a variety of physical activities to effectively perform essential job functions.
• The position involves frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%), with regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25-50%).
• Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs.
• Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands are essential, as the role demands constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology.
• Visual and auditory acuity-including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus-is required 100% of the time.
• Occasional driving or climbing may also be necessary.
