Responsibilities:
  • Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans
  • Reviews charts for completeness, in accordance with documentation protocols prior to and after the surgical procedure
  • Ensure that the Operating Room is prepared with all necessary supplies, implants. Instrumentation, and equipment
  • Provides for patient safety by actively participating In the Intraoperative "timeout*
  • Participates in counting all sponges, instruments, etc., at appropriate times during the surgical procedure
  • Position the patient on the operating room table utilizing safety measures such as safety belts, positioning devices and alarms
  • Assures aseptic conditions are maintained by the scrubbed surgical team throughout the procedure
  • Take care of specimens, prepare, check, and monitor medications, and assist with dressings
  • Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team
  • Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol
  • Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms
  • Observes, checks and monitors all equipment used during surgery to ensure operational efficiency
  • Follow relevant safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Participate in orientation and education of all operating room staff on an ongoing basis
  • Participate in stocking and restocking medical supplies
  • Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting
  • Manage direct patient care of assigned patients that are scheduled for surgery or transferred to the PACU department for observation.
  • Perform all aspects of care within the nursing scope of practice per the Alabama board of nursing
  • Proficiently manages nursing assignments when assigned charge nurse and maintains PACU throughput Ensures all surgical patients are appropriately prepared and optimized for surgery in the preoperative holding area
  • Appropriately recover all postoperative patients at the bedside per ASPANs guidelines and actively assist patients in returning to their pre-anesthesia state
  • Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, technologist, and other hospital personnel as necessary to provide quality patient care appropriately with all other members of the health care team
  • Support the daily operations of the OR and PACU schedules by
  • Promote a positive work attitude and provide patient centered care
  • Actively develops a sense of team. Initiates and participates In team development
  • Maintains professional growth and development through an ongoing process of formal and informal education
  • Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone

  • Performs circulating duties in surgical services with minimal support
  • Facilitate case turnover and OR efficiency
  • Prepares case according to preference card.
  • Notifies service line coordinator of any updates needing to be made.
  • Participates on Shared Governance as assigned.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities through quality measurement or participation of ICARE process as assigned.
  • Performs scrub functions.
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required

Additional Information:

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the State of Alabama Required
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Upon Hire Required
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support within 90 Days Required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support within 30 Days Required
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 90 Days Required
  • TCAR - Trauma Care After Resuscitation within 180 Days Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
