  • Pay Rate: $55.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Night shift, 12-hour nights; 18:45 07:15 (3 12 hours); 36 hours can be offered

Job Summary

This is a Neuro ICU travel nursing contract position at a Comprehensive Stroke Center, providing intensive care to a complex neurological and neurosurgical patient population. The unit's largest patient population includes stroke patients (ischemic, hemorrhagic, SAH), and the facility is recognized as a comprehensive stroke center. The unit operates with a 2:1 nurse-to-patient ratio that can flex up to 3:1 during high census periods, with an average daily census of 11 12. First-time travelers will not be accepted for this assignment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Care for patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical diagnoses including strokes (ischemic, hemorrhagic [SAH]), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis
  • Manage and monitor external ventricular drains (EVDs), lumbar drains, hemovacs, and Camino ICP monitoring devices
  • Operate and manage specialized equipment including EVD, Lumbar Drains, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun
  • Utilize unit systems including Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR for patient care and documentation
  • Maintain a 2:1 patient ratio with the ability to flex up to 3:1 during high census periods
  • Float as required per unit needs
  • Work every other weekend as scheduled
  • Complete unit orientation (24.0 hours; 2 days or 2 nights)
  • Follow scheduling per unit needs

Education Requirements

  • ACLS certification required
  • BCLS certification required
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification required
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Neuro ICU absolutely required; no exceptions
  • Strong Neuro Critical Care background required general ICU experience alone is not sufficient
  • First-time travelers will NOT be accepted for this assignment

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Night shift schedule: 12-hour nights, 18:45 07:15
  • 36-hour work weeks (3 12 shifts)
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirement
  • Float requirement: Yes
  • Scheduling per unit needs
  • Scrubs: Navy blue & white
  • Patient ratios: 2:1 (can flex up to 3:1 in high census; nurse must be comfortable with this)
  • Average daily census: 11 12

Important Notes

  • RTO (Return to Origin) after booking is NOT allowed and is NOT allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could result in a contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
  • RTO maximum: 7 days for AYA Auto Offer assignments.
  • Candidate must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years in Neuro ICU if they do not meet this requirement, please redirect.
  • Candidate must have a strong Neuro Critical Care background, not just general ICU experience.
  • Locals accepted.
