Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children is Hawaiis only maternity newborn and pediatric specialty hospital. It is well recognized as Hawaiis leader in the care of women infants and children. With 253 beds the not-for-profit hospital delivers 6000 babies a year and is also a medical teaching and research facility. At Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit provides continuous acute care to newborns of up to three months including meeting the complex psychosocial needs of both the child and their family. Nursing and medical support staff in the NICU work with the Neonatology team to care for premature babies and assist in pediatric surgeries providing care to newborn infants with cardiovascular andor respiratory disease and infants requiring treatments for various diagnoses including infection and surgery. Support and education is delivered to patients and family in an atmosphere that promotes bonding of the family unit.
