Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 3 months
  • Pay Rate: $57.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Night shift, 4x12 hours (18:45 7:15); 36 or 48 hours per week

Job Summary

This is an ED Holding Support position located in the Float Pool. The ED Holding unit (EDIP) is an inpatient holding area located within the Emergency Department where patients are waiting for an inpatient bed in the hospital. Patients may have any medical/surgical adult diagnosis, and the traveler may have PCU level patients. Travelers are expected to take MS/Tele cases as well as float to ED and MedSurg areas as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Care for patients in the ED Holding unit who are awaiting inpatient bed placement, with any adult medical/surgical diagnosis.
  • Manage MS/Tele cases and float to ED and MedSurg areas as needed.
  • Manage PCU level patients as assigned.
  • Work within target ratios of 1:6 for MS/Tele patients or 1:4 for PCU level patients.
  • Work every other weekend as required.
  • Be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster.
  • Be aware that consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur, and contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed.
  • Document and communicate using unit systems: Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR.
  • Follow manager-scheduled assignments.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • This is a mixed unit with high acuity patients.
  • Unit is the ED Holding inpatient area (EDIP) located within the Emergency Department.
  • Standard equipment in use, including cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and other monitoring systems.
  • Unit documentation and medication systems: Pyxis, Epic, SBAR.
  • Scrub color: Navy.
  • Unit orientation: 12 hours.
  • Scheduling type: Manager Schedules.
  • Every other weekend required.
  • RTO (Return to Time Off): 7 days maximum.
  • Float requirement: Must float to ED and MedSurg areas as needed.
  • Patient diagnoses include any adult Medical/Surgical diagnoses.

Important Notes

  • RTO after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly result in a contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
  • Due to high turnover rate, all candidates will be interviewed.
  • Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.
  • Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team. Contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster. Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur, and contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed.
