Job Summary

This is a Medical/Surgical Telemetry (MS/Tele) Registered Nurse travel contract position at a hospital facility in Rochester, NY. RNs are required to have mandatory competency with phlebotomy as well as placing IVs, as these are required skills for any RN at this facility. The unit is supported by PCTs on all units who perform vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on the MS/Tele unit with day/evening patient ratios of 5:1 (stretch 6 7) and night ratios of 6 7:1 (stretch 8 10 if staff calls in)
• Demonstrate mandatory competency with phlebotomy and peripheral IV placement
• Perform interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Utilize Rapid Response Teams as appropriate
• Manage peripheral line care and maintenance
• Administer and monitor oxygen therapy including nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, and portable oxygen tanks
• Perform non-invasive airway management
• Implement and maintain isolation precautions
• Float within scope to meet facility needs and between like units as required
• Care for patients with diagnoses including colon cancer, intestinal obstructions, breast cancer, morbid obesity, cholecystitis, and appendicitis

Education Requirements

• Active NY RN License required (NY is not a Compact state)
• BLS certification required
• Pending license not accepted

Required Experience

• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• First-time travelers accepted

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM 7:00 AM
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
• On-call: Not required
• Floating required within scope between like units to meet facility needs
• Block schedule: Facility will try to accommodate but not guaranteed
• Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white
• Charting system: Epic

Important Notes

• No local candidates: Candidates within 75 miles of the facility are not eligible
• RTO Restrictions: No more than 1 week of requested time off will be permitted per contract
• Pending license: Not accepted active NY RN License must be in hand at time of submission
