Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract (Travel/Contract)
  • Contract Duration: 6 months
  • Pay Rate: $60.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Nights 3x12 Hours, 18:45 07:15; 36 or 48 hours accepted. If 48, no OT billed until after 48 hours.
  • Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Job Summary

This is a Neuro Unit Medical Surgical travel nursing position. The unit focuses on general medicine with an emphasis on neurological patient diagnoses. Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team. Contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster. Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur, and the contract staff may be pre-assigned to units as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care using a teamwork approach with a focus on patient safety
  • Manage a patient load with a 1:6 ratio on a Neuro/Medical Surgical unit
  • Document, communicate, and administer medications utilizing Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR
  • Float as required travelers float first
  • Work weekend shifts as required: 5 6 weekend shifts (equates to every other weekend)
  • Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments as directed
  • Report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters as required
  • Fulfill charge nurse role as assigned/willing to learn

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Teamwork approach to patient care
  • Focus on patient safety
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification
  • Ability to float to other units as directed
  • Willingness to work weekends (5 6 shifts per contract period)

Preferred Skills

  • NIH stroke scale experience
  • Neuro nursing experience
  • Experience in or willingness to learn the charge nurse role

Education Requirements

  • Active RN License required
  • ACLS certification required
  • BLS certification required

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Local candidates accepted

  • Unit: Neuro/Medical Surgical patient diagnoses include general medicine with a focus on neuro
  • Shift: Nights, 3x12, 18:45 07:15; 36 or 48 hours accepted per week
  • Weekend requirement: 5 6 weekend shifts per contract period (approximately every other weekend)
  • Float requirement: Yes travelers float first
  • Scheduling type: Manager schedules
  • Unit orientation: 24 hours
  • Scrubs: Not provided Navy Blue required
  • Flu vaccination: Required (medical/religious exemptions only)
  • COVID-19 vaccination: Not required
  • Storm Team/Hurricane Team assignments mandatory for contract staff
  • Contract staff may be required to report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
  • Mid-contract consolidation to the Centralized Office may occur; contract staff may be pre-assigned to units as needed

Important Notes

  • RTO (Return to Origin) after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could result in contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
  • RTO maximum: 7 days for AYA Auto Offer positions.
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start required for this specialty (Neuro unit).
