  • Pay Rate: $55.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Nights (3 12 Hours), 18:45 7:15

Job Summary

This is a travel/contract Medical-Surgical nursing position supporting an MS/Oncology unit. The unit primarily serves Medical Surgical patients with Oncology history, with a daily census of 42. Contract staff will be assigned equally to the home unit staff to ensure that patients are covered with a registered nurse. Target nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:6, with the possibility of higher ratios during times of increased census.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care on a Medical-Surgical/Oncology unit, primarily to general medical-surgical diagnosis patient populations
  • Administer chemotherapy/biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection as needed
  • Care for patients with diagnoses including AKI, Sepsis, Cancer, Septic shock, Pain, OD, Malignant Neoplasms, ARF, Encephalopathy, FTT, Diabetic foot ulcers, and Heparin drips
  • Perform colostomy care, access ports, administer blood products, perform central line blood draws, and manage peripheral lines and PICC lines
  • Manage Heparin and Insulin drips, surgical drains, and chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
  • Provide nasal cannula support, non-invasive airway management, and wound care/wound vac
  • Implement and maintain isolation precautions
  • Utilize unit systems including PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR for medication, documentation, and communication
  • Float to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding, such as inpatient holding in the ED, or any alternate medical patient care location
  • Work every other weekend as required
  • Fulfill call requirement: if called off on a pre-scheduled shift, call is required
  • Make up any shifts that are called out via rescheduled make-up shifts
  • Attend monthly staff meetings
  • Be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
  • Accept pre-assignment to units as needed, including possible consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Night shift, 3 12-hour shifts (18:45 7:15)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Call required if called off on a pre-scheduled shift; called-out shifts must be made up
  • Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding (e.g., inpatient holding in the ED or any alternate medical patient care location)
  • Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
  • Mid-contract consolidation to a Centralized Office may occur; contract staff may be pre-assigned to units as needed
  • Scrub colors: Navy Blue and White
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Important Notes

  • RTO (Return to Origin) after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly result in contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
  • Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.
  • Unit orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
  • Contract duration: 3 months
