Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical/Surgical Telemetry Float

Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | 36 hours/week | Every Other Weekend | Rotating Holidays
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical/Surgical Telemetry Float is responsible for coordinating and delivering comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a Med/Surg Telemetry setting. The RN provides patient-centered care, including education, medication administration, and telemetry monitoring, while collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team. This role may require floating between multiple affiliated healthcare facilities as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care utilizing the nursing process.
- Monitor and manage patients on telemetry.
- Administer medications safely and in accordance with best practices.
- Perform IV therapy and phlebotomy procedures.
- Manage patients with chest drainage systems and epidural analgesia.
- Assess patient conditions and respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Provide care for post-operative, orthopedic, and medical-surgical patients.
- Accurately document patient care in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and care procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams.
- Identify and report signs of abuse or neglect in compliance with regulations.
- Manage pain effectively and follow appropriate restraint protocols when necessary.
- Ensure adherence to hospital policies, nursing standards, and regulatory guidelines.
- Float between facilities as required to meet patient care needs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of Medical/Surgical Telemetry RN experience.
- Prior travel nursing experience required.
- Experience with IV therapy and phlebotomy.
- Ability to manage a 1:5–6 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- Strong telemetry monitoring and cardiac medication administration skills.
- Experience caring for post-operative, orthopedic, and medical-surgical patients.
- Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and teamwork abilities.
Education
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Licensure & Certifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) License in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Current BLS Certification.
- Completion of Medical/Surgical IV Medication Module.
- Completion of Basic Arrhythmia Exam.
