Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery (L&D) Facility: University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center Location: Bel Air, Maryland Start Date: 06/01/2026 Contract Length: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift – 3x12 Hours (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) Schedule: Every Other Weekend Required
Position Overview: The Labor & Delivery RN will provide comprehensive care for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and high-risk obstetric patients in a fast-paced LDRP unit with a Level II NICU/Special Care Nursery. The nurse will manage laboring patients, assist during deliveries and C-sections, provide postpartum and newborn care, and support maternal-fetal health throughout the continuum of care.
Requirements:
Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery RN experience required
First-time travelers accepted
Active Maryland RN License or Compact License required at submission
BLS and NRP required
ACLS, STABLE, FHM, and AWHONN certifications preferred
Experience with Epic charting preferred
Must be comfortable floating within specialty/sister units as needed
Clinical Experience Required:
Labor & delivery management
High-risk deliveries and emergency situations
Circulating for C-sections
Recovery of C-section patients
Vaginal delivery assistance
Fetal monitoring interpretation
Neonatal resuscitation and newborn care
Postpartum care including hemorrhage and pre-eclampsia management
IV therapy, infusion pumps, blood administration, and medication drips
Unit Details:
LDRP unit with Level II NICU/Special Care Nursery
14 LDRP rooms
9 overflow beds for postpartum, antepartum, NAS, and bili baby patients
2 triage beds
2 antenatal testing bays
2 ORs and 2 PACU bays
Approximately 105 deliveries per month
Patient Ratios:
Early labor/induction: 1:2
Active labor: 1:1
C-Section: 1:1
Triage: 1:4
Postpartum: 1:4
Additional Information:
Navy blue scrubs required
Floating may be required within specialty and sister units
No on-call requirement
Holiday coverage required as scheduled
Flu vaccine required
Travelers must reside 50+ miles from the facility
