Job Description Summary

7 West Surgical Oncology is a high-acuity 24-bed adult inpatient unit specializing in gynecologic and head & neck oncology as well as benign GYN and ENT patients. We also care for a mix of medical-surgical patients including respiratory endocrine GI trauma and behavioral health needs. Our team manages chemotherapy radiation TPN tube feedings and cares for complex head & neck surgical patients with trachs laryngectomies and advanced wound needs. We also support patients throughout the palliative and hospice journey. Staff on 7 West develop strong skills with heparin and insulin drips PCAepidural pain management and various surgical drains. New team members receive specialized training with opportunities to pursue oncology head & neck med-surg and palliative care certifications. 7 West offers a supportive team-focused environment where RNs PCTs and unit secretaries can grow their skills and make a meaningful impact to their team and patients.

Job Summary

Purpose Under general supervision the Registered Nurse I New Graduate assists at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized goal directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.

Minimum Training and Education

Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.

Required Licensure Certifications and Registrations

Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support BLS required either a certification from an American Heart Association AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or AHA recognized equivalent or an American Red Cross CPRAED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
