Our Behavioral Health team provides compassionate, patient-centered care in a supportive and collaborative environment. The House Supervisor serves as the nursing and operational leader during assigned shifts, ensuring safe staffing, regulatory compliance, quality patient care, and efficient hospital operations. This role partners closely with nursing leadership, providers, and interdisciplinary teams to support exceptional outcomes for patients and staff.
How you'll contribute
A Registered Nurse (RN), House Supervisor who excels in this role:
- Oversees nursing and hospital operations during assigned shifts to ensure quality patient care and operational excellence.
- Manages nursing department staffing and scheduling, ensuring adequate coverage while minimizing overtime and agency utilization.
- Reviews and approves or denies time-off requests in collaboration with nursing leadership.
- Monitors staff attendance, maintains records of tardiness and absences, and assists with payroll processes as directed.
- Serves as the administrative leader during evenings, nights, weekends, and other periods when hospital administration is not onsite.
- Supervises staff performance and provides coaching, mentoring, education, and support to promote professional growth and accountability.
- Assists with staff performance evaluations and administers corrective action in accordance with hospital policies.
- Provides direct patient care and functions as a working RN when needed to support unit operations and patient needs.
- Supports admissions and intake processes as needed to ensure efficient patient flow and timely access to care.
- Conducts nursing assessments, develops and updates treatment plans, administers medications, and oversees admissions and discharges.
- Ensures documentation is timely, accurate, complete, and compliant with regulatory and organizational standards.
- Assists the Chief Nursing Officer and nursing leadership with department meetings, documentation, attendance tracking, and follow-up actions.
- Investigates incidents, concerns, and grievances, gathers accurate information, completes required documentation, and communicates findings to leadership.
- Facilitates conflict resolution and mediation among staff while maintaining a positive work environment.
- Maintains compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), CMS, state, federal, and organizational standards.
- Promotes a culture of safety, patient advocacy, quality improvement, and compassionate care.
What we're looking for
Applicants should possess a current RN license in the State of North Carolina and graduate from an accredited nursing program. Additional requirements include:
- Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina required.
- Previous behavioral health, psychiatric, substance use disorder, dual diagnosis, or geriatric nursing experience preferred.
- Leadership or charge nurse experience preferred.
- Experience with patient assessment, treatment planning, family engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration preferred.
- Strong communication, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements including TJC, CMS, Medicaid, and state and federal healthcare regulations.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to remain calm and effective during emergencies and high-pressure situations.
- Commitment to patient-centered, compassionate care and staff development.
