Job Title: Registered Nurse (Temporary)

Site: Federal Medical Center (FMC) Carswell (Health Services Department - includes Inpatient Unit NCC 1/2, Specialty Care Clinic, Outpatient Clinic, Mental Health Units M1/M2/M3, and Administrative Unit)
Duration: 3 months contract with the possibility of extension.
Pay: $50 - $60 on W2
Shift Schedule:
- 7:00 AM 7:30 PM
- 7:00 PM 7:30 AM
- 5:30 AM 6:00 PM
- 1:00 PM 9:30 PM
- Coverage required for both day and night shifts, including weekends and federal holidays
How Many Shifts Needed Per Month:
- Week 1 coverage days: Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday
- Week 2 coverage days: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
- Total labor hours not to exceed 80 sessions (hours) per two-week period per nurse, unless authorized in writing by the COR or Contracting Officer
Credentialing / Onboarding Time: 6 8 weeks
License: Active, current RN license issued by the State of Texas
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) - Health Care Provider level, issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (current certification required)
Education: Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program (proof of graduation required)
Experience Needed: Minimum 6 months of RN experience preferred; RN labor categories may be RN I, II, III, Specialist, or equivalent
Special Skills Needed:
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (Bureau Electronic Medical Records / BEMR system documentation)
- Venipuncture and IV line placement
- EKG operation, cardiac monitoring, glucometer, AED, and other clinical equipment
- Triage and urgent/emergency care assessment
- Knowledge of infection control protocols
- Ability to communicate with and provide care to patients of diverse ages, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds
- Familiarity with JCAHO and American Correctional Association standards preferred
- Ability to work within a secure correctional facility environment
Responsibilities:
- Direct patient care: history taking, vital signs, appointments, clinical support
- Venipuncture, blood draws, IV line initiation and completion
- Medication administration (including vaccinations) and MAR documentation in BEMR
- Sharps security, accounting, storage, and disposal per policy
- Urinalysis and point-of-care lab testing
- EKG, BP monitoring, glucometry, cardiac monitoring, AED operation
- Support to Specialty Care, Ambulatory, Telemedicine, and Mental Health clinics
- Infectious disease support (PPD planting/reading, COVID-19 testing and immunization)
- Emergency and urgent care triage and response
- Nursing assessments, care plan development, implementation, and evaluation
- Suicidal, homicidal, and abuse risk identification and documentation
- Discharge planning documentation
- In-Transit medical record form completion
- Sick call log management and appointment tracking
- Medical records pulling, filing, copying, scanning, and data entry
- Maintenance of supplies and equipment in patient care areas
- Adherence to BOP Health Services Manual, institutional policy, Privacy Act of 1974, and JCAHO standards
- Maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
