JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the House Supervisor or department director, the ED RN provides direct and indirect patient care in the Emergency Department setting. Must respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or responses to treatment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform patient assessments considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age. Uses appropriate screening tools effectively. Applies the ESI Triage Scale to determine patient’s acuity.
Demonstrates understanding of pathophysiology, disease processes, and treatment standards. Applies nursing diagnoses to identified needs.
Formulates a care plan based upon identified needs and facilitates interventions and referrals as appropriate.
Performs interventions in a competent manner, applying evidence-based standards of care and protocols to guide actions. Knowledgeable regarding medications, indications, interactions, and contraindications, considering age of the patient and their clinical condition. Evaluates effectiveness of all interventions.
Formulates individualized teaching plans, evaluating effectiveness of learning. Patient and family interactions are professional.
Familiar with Policies, Procedures, and Protocols. Care and Documentation meets current standards of practice and complies with all such guidelines.

Hearing requirements: ability to hear alarms on equipment, patient call and instructions.

From 1 – 2 hours per day: grasping: firm/heavy.
