Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a Registered Nurse (ED/ER) to fill an opening at a hospital located in Metairie, LA. This role focuses on providing rapid assessment, critical interventions, and compassionate care to patients presenting with acute illnesses, trauma, and medical emergencies in a fast-paced emergency department setting.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Completion of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree).
  • Licensure: Active Louisiana state RN license and current BLS Certification.
  • Experience: At least one year of experience is required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in rapid patient triage (ESI), IV insertion and phlebotomy, EKG administration, wound care and suturing assistance, medication administration (including conscious sedation and critical drips), defibrillation/cardioversion, and use of EMR.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional critical thinking and rapid decision-making; ability to remain calm under extreme pressure; strong prioritization and multitasking skills; excellent communication with physicians, patients, and families; compassionate care for patients of all ages and acuities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform rapid triage assessments using the ESI (Emergency Severity Index) to prioritize patient care based on acuity level.
  • Manage a diverse patient population presenting with conditions such as chest pain, stroke, respiratory distress, sepsis, trauma, fractures, abdominal pain, psychiatric emergencies, and overdose.
  • Initiate and titrate emergency medications (vasopressors, antiarrhythmics, thrombolytics, etc.) according to physician orders and protocols.
  • Perform and interpret EKGs, obtain lab specimens, and initiate IV access (including ultrasound-guided IVs when applicable).
  • Assist with resuscitative efforts including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation, airway management (including BVM and assisting with intubation), and hemorrhage control.
  • Coordinate care with emergency physicians, trauma surgeons, respiratory therapists, radiology, and lab staff to expedite diagnostics and treatment.
  • Monitor patients receiving continuous cardiac telemetry, oxygen therapy, BiPAP, or mechanical ventilation.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, discharge instructions (including medications, follow-up, and warning signs), and community resources.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the EMR.
  • De-escalate agitated or psychiatric patients using appropriate behavioral and pharmacological interventions.
  • Prepare patients for admission, transfer to higher level of care, or discharge, ensuring safe handoff communication.
