Registered Nurse - Court Services
Standard Starting Rate: $28.9663 - $31.8035 per hour (negotiable based on qualifications)
Status: Full-Time
Schedule: May include day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts
Position Summary
McLean County is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our Court Services team at the Juvenile Detention Center. In this role, you will provide direct patient care, monitor physical and mental health, and coordinate with medical professionals to ensure residents receive quality healthcare. This is a fast-paced environment where your nursing expertise and dedication can make a meaningful difference every day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess patients' physical and mental conditions; maintain accurate medical records.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and outside providers to coordinate care.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and policies.
- Arrange specialty services, including dental visits, emergency and telepsychiatry appointments.
- Conduct resident physicals and maintain routine medical records and charting according to policy and procedures. Maintain accurate records of medication ordered and delivered for purpose of billing.
- Coordinate and implement any dietary needs for residents.
- Provide health care education for residents on an individual basis or group settings as needed.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, families, and healthcare professionals while appropriately maintaining confidentiality.
- Perform training for new staff and annual recertification training for staff in areas of need.
- Maintain compliance with professional standards, OSHA requirements, and county policies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong clinical knowledge of nursing theory, human anatomy, illnesses, and medical terminology.
- Ability to monitor patient conditions and respond appropriately in urgent situations.
- Familiarity with patient de-escalation and calming techniques.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on empathy and respect.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic recordkeeping.
- Ability to supervise and support other nursing staff effectively.
- Commitment to confidentiality and professional standards.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse license in Illinois, or in a state with Illinois reciprocity.
- CPR and IV certifications (required).
- Additional certifications as needed for the role.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, 20 pounds constantly.
- Exposure to body fluids, airborne illnesses, and potentially anxious or combative patients.
- This position works with the Juvenile Detention Center staff and officers to ensure a safe and healthy environment. Clear communication is essential to this position.
- Use of protective equipment such as gloves, gowns, and masks are required.
