Job Overview
The Registered Nurse functions as a member of the healthcare team in a manner consistent with their scope of practice in Pennsylvania in concert with policies and procedures. The Registered Nurse is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation & documentation of care provided, and patient response to interventions.
Job Responsibilities
Patient Tracking - ED/Inpatient, Outpatient and Consult
Handle phone calls, re: referrals to Child Protection
Triage skills and collaborate with emergency department
Represent child protection at case conferences
Mentor for all emergency department RN's on how to handle child protection patients
Develop process for outpatient office and ED collaboration for triage of patients requiring immediate attention
Capturing patients that present to the ED with physical/sexual abuse concerns and ensuring proper initial medical management of the cases in the ED, as well as referral to Child Protection Program for formal evaluation.
In real time, the nurse would provide families with information about the program, while scheduling a time for their evaluation.
Nurse would interface with the primary care provider of patients who are hospitalized to ensure the provider is aware of the child's admission for suspected maltreatment and that they are aware of the need for the necessary follow up.
Nurse would provide test results to families and the primary care physician.
Nurse would keep track of all laboratory studies conducted by the department while creating policies, procedures and protocols for the clinic.
Work to support the physicians/providers in clinic by interfacing with families directly in the clinic and obtaining their vitals (HT, WT, BP, RR, Temp, HC).
Document vitals and other patient interactions in electronic health record.
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to develop creative care coordination strategies based on challenging physical, psychological, developmental, social and educational situations appropriate to the age of the patients served.
