Job Summary

This is a Cardiac Telemetry travel nursing position on a challenging, fast-paced unit that serves as the primary cardiac and stroke unit. The unit typically turns over 78 to 90 patients per week, meaning a nurse with a 6-patient assignment may turn over their complete assignment and start over within a single shift. A team lead is available to assist with admissions and discharges. The unit currently houses COVID-positive patients utilizing opti-flow and BiPAP, and the high-acuity side of the Cardiac Telemetry Unit (CTU) functions as a COVID unit that accepts patients on opti-flow and acute BiPAPs during a COVID surge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to stable pre- and post-procedure cardiac patients, including pacemaker implantation, implanted cardioverter/defibrillators, cardiac catheterization, and TR bands
  • Manage post-uncomplicated interventional peripheral vascular procedures and cardiac interventions without sheaths
  • Monitor and care for patients with non-rebreather mask with stable O2 saturation (must be on pulse ox), unstable angina, low-risk chest pain evaluation, CHF, dysrhythmias, all new CVA, and TIA patients
  • Initiate IV access and perform telemetry monitoring
  • Manage and titrate cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone, and others
  • Perform and document care for pre- and post-procedure cardiac patients and PCI patients
  • Manage target patient ratios of 1:5 6; must be comfortable accepting up to 6 patients during surge
  • Follow self-scheduling guidelines under leadership oversight to balance unit needs
  • Utilize unit systems: Pyxis, Dimensions (EPIC), and SBAR for medication administration, documentation, and communication
  • Operate and monitor special equipment including telemetry, pulse ox, high-flow O2 (stable), non-rebreather mask (palliative only), and BiPAP (chronic use only no new BiPAP)
  • Adhere to strict RTO policy: RTO after booking is NOT allowed and is NOT allowed to be worked out onsite; any call-offs or additional RTO could result in contract cancellation and DNR
