The EEG Technologist works under the supervision of the Manager - Neurology. To perform various electroneurodiagnostic procedures that include, but are not limited to, electroencephalography (EEG).

Skills and Abilities

Essential Technical/Motor Skills

  • Calibrates and operates equipment.
  • Cleans equipment; speaks clearly; fine motor skills.
  • Key boarding, computer mouse, and Microsoft Windows operating system.
  • Copying and filing skills.

  • Demonstrates the desire to acquire and learn new skills.
  • Is mature and able to establish good report with the patients, public and staff.

  • Stands; operates technical equipment; assists patients in and out of bed.
  • Sitting, stooping, walking, lifting > 80 pounds (36kg).
  • Ability to push, pull, hear and read with fine definition.

  • Able to effectively explain procedures to patients.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Performs all tasks of EEG Technician I.
  • Helps with in-services in all areas of neurodiagnostics.
  • Performs advanced EEG\EP recordings during special studies intraoperative cases.
  • Ability to perform and evaluate long term epilepsy monitoring and obtain hard copy printouts for physicians.
  • Prepares to take either the American Board of Registration of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists in Evoked potentials or Certified Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring or prepares to take the registry in Electrodiagnostic Technology from the AAET.
  • Participates in state, regional and national educational opportunities. Prepares presentation and contributes at conferences relating to electroneurodiagnostic testing.
  • Performs electrocorticograms from exposed cerebral cortex in the OR.
  • Performs EEG and EP monitoring on patients with scalp and intracranially placed electrodes, (depth, grids\strips, sphenoidal electrodes).
  • Assists and records during direct cortical stimulation studies.
  • Performs EEG recording during special studies such as WADA testing, PET studies.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education

  • H.S. Diploma - Required
  • College credits in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, biology, biochemistry, physics is highly beneficial or graduate from an accredited END program - Preferred

Work Experience

  • 3 Years - Experience in EEG, EP, epilepsy monitoring and OR monitoring - Preferred
  • Acute hospital patient care experience - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registration from one of the following is required: American Board of Registration of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (R. EEGT), Evoked Potentials Technologist (REPT), OR Monitoring (CNIM), Registry by AAET (R. ED T.) or Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT). - Required Upon Hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required Upon Hire

Travel Requirements

  • Must be able to travel between various system facilities and off-site locations as needed. - Required
