Position Summary

The Regional Traveling Millwright/Industrial Mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving industrial machinery throughout Rex Lumber's manufacturing facilities, with assignments that may include additional locations as business needs evolve.

This position travels between our facilities in:

  • Graceville, FL
  • Bristol, FL
  • Troy, AL
  • Dothan, AL
  • Brookhaven, MS
  • Additional locations as assigned

Travel is based on planned maintenance, improvement projects, equipment installations, shutdowns, and emergency repairs.

Rex Lumber provides company-paid mileage, lodging, and meals for all approved travel assignments.

Because maintenance schedules vary by location, this position requires flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operational needs dictate.

What You'll Do

  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on sawmill equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems.
  • Install new machinery and production equipment.
  • Perform precision alignments, bearing replacements, conveyor repairs, and equipment rebuilds.
  • Perform welding and light fabrication.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Install and replace motors, gearboxes, shafts, conveyors, and production equipment.
  • Assist with mill shutdowns and improvement projects.
  • Inspect machinery to identify potential failures before they occur.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Perform additional maintenance duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of industrial maintenance or millwright experience preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting industrial machinery.
  • Basic welding and fabrication experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints and maintenance manuals.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to safely work around heavy industrial equipment.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible schedules.

Travel Requirements

This position supports all Rex Lumber manufacturing facilities.

Travel includes:

  • Graceville, Florida
  • Bristol, Florida
  • Troy, Alabama
  • Dothan, Alabama
  • Brookhaven, Mississippi
  • Other locations as assigned

Rex Lumber provides:

  • Company-paid mileage

Schedule

This is a flexible maintenance position.

Candidates should expect to work:

  • Days
  • Nights
  • Weekends
  • Holidays (when required)
  • Overtime during shutdowns and emergency repairs

Schedules vary depending on the assigned facility and maintenance project.
