The Division of Elections is seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to guide our Region I team in Juneau! This position serves as the Region I Election Supervisor, a key role responsible for ensuring fair, secure, and efficient elections across a vast and diverse region of Alaska. As a working member of the Division of Elections senior management team, the supervisor oversees the full scope of planning, coordination, administration, and execution of election operations for the Region I Office.

The Region I Election Supervisor oversees state and federal elections for 64 precincts spanning Southeast Alaska, Cordova, Seward, the Kodiak Island Borough, and the southern Kenai Peninsula. This includes ensuring that every voting location is fully equipped with ballots, supplies, and functioning equipment, and that each site is appropriately staffed to successfully conduct elections.

This role is both strategic and hands-on. The supervisor develops and delivers training for full-time staff, temporary employees, election workers, and regional board members each election cycle. Regular travel throughout Southeast Alaska, Kodiak, and the Kenai Peninsula is required to conduct trainings, and strong public speaking skills are required.

In addition to operational responsibilities, the supervisor contributes to the continuous improvement of election processes by assisting in the revision of forms, policies, and procedures, and by participating in the review of statutes, regulations, and legislative impacts.

Due to the high-profile and time-sensitive nature of elections, this position requires strict adherence to statutory deadlines. The ability to interpret and apply complex federal and state laws and policies is critical to success.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain cooperative relationships
  • A strong work ethic and high level of personal initiative
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize under pressure

The benefits of joining our team: This position provides meaningful work in support of our mission and offers the opportunity to work alongside a small team dedicated to providing these essential services to Alaskans.

The working environment you can expect: This position is located at 9101 Mendenhall Mall Rd, Ste 3 in Juneau, Alaska. The work environment is friendly, professional, and collaborative, with regular interaction with colleagues, municipal clerks, other state agencies, and the public.
