We are looking for a highly-driven and customer-oriented GFO Regional Eng Manager who will oversee all tasks associated with installing and maintaining AWS infrastructure in customer premises and/or colocation partner data centers across the US East Coast and Brazil. This includes ownership and accountability for the following efforts: building management systems (BMS), security protocols, access controls, power supply and resilience efforts, cooling systems, site hygiene, fire detection and control systems, preventative periodic maintenance, and all environmental aspects of the data centers in which AWS products and services will be deployed.

In this hands-on role, the GFO Regional Eng Manager operates with a high degree of professionalism and autonomy, regularly interfacing directly with customers to consistently deliver a positive customer experience. Partnering across internal teams and external third-party partners, this role regularly innovates and enables technical solutions that address engineering challenges as they arise. Leading a team of data center engineering technicians across multiple US and international sites, the GFO Regional Eng Manager thrives in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment and must demonstrate, and inspire in others, a positive "can do" attitude and a focus on our customers.

Key job responsibilities

Own end-to-end operations for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and decommissioning AWS infrastructure at customer premises and colocation data centers across the US East Coast and Brazil/SAMER.

Lead, develop, and inspire a team of data center engineering technicians across multiple domestic and international sites; drive a culture of inclusion and operational excellence.

Diagnose root causes for rack power, networking, and environmental issues to deliver against 100% uptime goals; own critical event response and disaster recovery readiness.

Collaborate with third-party partners, colocation teams, and internal stakeholders (EC2, Networking Eng, Supply Chain) to program manage installations and break/fix activities against SLAs.

Define and execute key performance metrics; drive continuous improvement and cost optimization across the region.

Partner with peer AMER West/Central and EMEA engineering managers to ensure consistent standards and knowledge sharing.

A day in the life

Physical Requirements:

Physical ability to push and/or pull heavy objects into position (regularly lift up to 49 lbs and participate in team lifts of 50+ lbs).

Ability to work on occasion in cramped spaces, elevated locations and/or at heights and from ladders, as required.

Travel Requirement:

Travel up to 15% to domestic and international client locations required, including periodic travel to Brazil/SAMER sites.

About the team

AWS Global Field Operations (GFO) is the operational backbone for AWS products deployed outside traditional data centers. The engineering team manages the full infrastructure lifecycle - installation, maintenance, break/fix, and decommissioning - across 70+ countries. This role sits within DCO and reports to the Sr. Manager of GFO AMER & EMEA. We value diverse experiences, work-life harmony, and continuous growth. Even if you don"t meet every preferred qualification, we encourage you to apply.

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
