Job Information

The Regional Director, South (RDS) is a senior executive leader responsible for the strategic and operational management of Child, Family and Community Wellness (CFCW) services across the South region of the Northwest Territories. Reporting to the Executive Director of CFCW and based in Fort Smith, the RDS provides leadership for a complex network of child protection, family support, youth services, mental health, prevention, and placement programs delivered across multiple communities and sites.

The role ensures all services are delivered in accordance with legislation, GNWT and NTHSSA policies, and professional standards. The RDS may also hold delegated authority under the Child and Family Services Act, carrying statutory responsibility for child protection decisions and interventions.

A key aspect of the position is leading and supporting a large multidisciplinary workforce, while working closely with Indigenous governments, regional leaders, and territorial partners to address community needs, improve outcomes for children and families, and advance integrated service delivery. The RDS is responsible for both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic planning, including program evaluation, quality improvement, resource management, and service innovation.

The position is responsible for ensuring that child, youth, family, and community wellness services are delivered safely, effectively, and in a culturally responsive manner, while supporting territorial priorities and advancing the overall effectiveness of the CFCW system across the Northwest Territories.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold and consistently practice personal diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness, as well as safety and sensitivity approaches in the workplace.
  • Provides executive leadership to regional employees and key stakeholders in alignment with the NTHSSA vision and values.
  • Provides executive leadership in the identification and analysis of regional issues, trends, and priorities to inform strategic and operational planning across CFCW programs and services.
  • Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of operational plans, priorities, and outcomes, including the establishment and application of program standards, policies, procedures, and clinical tools, aligned with NTHSSA and CFCW strategic directions.
  • Ensures the application of leading practices, accreditation standards, and legislative requirements, and oversees monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess program performance, outcomes, and compliance.

Key Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in social work plus eight years' relevant experience including three years managing people and resources.

Must meet GNWT Professional Registered Social Worker requirement.
