Job Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Deputy Director for Operations,

  • Oversees the management of assigned correctional institutions in accordance with state and federal laws and sound correctional practices.
  • Track trends and identify red flags that could be detrimental to the institutions under the purview of the assigned region.
  • Conducts routine inspections of institutions in the region regarding operations, safety, sanitation, management, policies and standard compliance.
  • Respond to onsite emergency situations in correctional institutions.
  • Actively participate and assist with inmate escape/apprehension activities.
  • Direct supervision for the Warden; participates in the selection of Wardens.
  • Review and implement policies and procedures; ensure that institutional post orders comply with SCDC policies and procedures.
  • The nature of the duties requires considerable unscheduled duty, for which no additional compensation nor compensatory time off is required.
  • Requires daily travel.
  • On Call and Will Travel.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A bachelors degree and relevant program management experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

  • A bachelors degree and ten (10) years of relevant experience in administrative services, public administration or business management in a maximum security correctional setting, including four (4) years in a supervisory capacity.

OR

  • An associate degree and twelve (12) years of relevant experience in administrative services, public administration or business management in a maximum security correctional setting, including four (4) years in a supervisory capacity.

OR

  • A high school diploma and fourteen (14) years of relevant experience in these areas, including four (4) years in a supervisory capacity.
