The position provides guidance to the Clinical Department. Responsibilities for this key position will support consistent, safe, and effective nursing practice in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational standards. The position will advise by supporting the aspects and principles of a person-centered approach to care delivery with guidance through leadership, education, quality improvement and risk management to a small-scale portfolio. The position directly reports to the Vice President of Support Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

General

  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with appropriate agencies, community leaders, and businesses, identifying programs and services that will be beneficial to residents or address a specific resident need; ensures that all such programs and services support the objectives, vision, and strategic plan of the clinical department.
  • Collaborates with ARVUM/SummerHouse Vice President of Support Services, Discovery Vice President of Resident Care, the National Director of Clinical Staff Development, and the National Director of Memory Care to identify and respond to clinical department needs.
  • Implements and interprets the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department and provide analytical data on key performance metrics.
  • Performs proficiently in all nursing competency areas in assisted living and memory care setting, within scope of practice, including but not limited to direct resident care, family support, resident rights, and safety. 
  • Identifies high-risk resident conditions or events and appropriate scalable responsive measures.
  • Develops and provides education to Regional Director of Resident Care and Resident Care Specialist in collaboration with the National Director of Clinical Education.
  • Knowledge and supports policies and practices developed by the company.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of systems across departments by way of formal and informal on-site visits such as preparatory process reviews, simulated surveys, and virtual interfaces.
  • Provides on-site and virtual support during company acquisitions.
  • Involved in the development and implementation of clinical programming.
  • Oversees the clinical quality assurance programs, survey readiness, risk mitigation measures, and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • May serve as a member of clinical and risk management committees.
  • Develops and manages vendor partnerships and standardization across the management company to create efficiency and ensure a high-quality experience with resident care.
  • Monitor and supervise departmental budget compliance.

 Resident Care and Regulatory Compliance

  • Monitors the practice of resident care policies and procedures, in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational standards.
  • Guides the development and improvement of clinical policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Knowledge of new or changing regulatory requirements and implements changes as needed.
  • Participates in review of incidents, accidents, and clinical risk scenarios to safeguard residents and mitigate liability and risk.
  • Monitors timely entry of incidents and accidents in software programs and ensures a thorough investigation is completed.
  • Collaborates with all disciplines to reduce risk.
  • Serves as a champion and key educator for our infection control and prevention program.
  • Guides regional team members with the management of infectious illnesses and communicable disease outbreaks.
  • Monitors appropriate notification and involvement of the local and/or state public health departments as required.
  • Monitors adherence of the resident pre-admission assessment process and the clinical denial process.
  • Reviews of prospective and existing residents as needed.
  • Reviews of potential move-outs as needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate level of care assessments for timely completion, accuracy, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational standards.
  • Support a learning culture where, in part, programs use data, trending analyses, and innovation to deliver evidenced/consensus-based solutions.
  • Participates in the interview and selection process for Regional Directors of Resident Care, Resident Care Specialist, Directors of Health and Wellness and other key team members.
  • Assists with the onboarding, orientation, and ongoing development of these positions under the direction and collaboration with the National Director of Clinical Education.
  • Maintain a professional development system that includes comprehensive onboarding, clinical supervision, and periodic job performance reviews for the Regional Directors of Resident Care and Resident Care Specialist.
  • Takes initiative in developing nursing leadership skills, clinical skills, and competencies through continuing education and participation in senior living and organizations.
  • Completes company required training and education as assigned.
  • Monitors training compliance for the clinical department.
  • Collaborates with operational leaders and other disciplines to develop and monitor staffing and labor budgets, nursing supply budgets, and community occupancy targets.
  • Participates in the annual budget process as assigned.
  • Tracks regulatory outcomes, identifies trends, and provides guidance to regional team members in the development of corrective action or performance improvement plans.
  • Monitors effective implementation of quality improvement plans
  • Collaborates with the legal and compliance departments on regulatory requirements and plans of correction.

 Clinical Risk Management, Safety, and Infection Control

  • Guides Regional Director Resident Care to conduct routine and episodic quality rounds and compliance audits at communities. Reviews and provides feedback on actions to minimize liability and risks as a result of the compliance visits.
  • Monitors and reviews key performance indicator data to identify quality trends.
  • Develops and implements corrective action plans with Regional Director of Resident Care, and operational leaders.
  • Participates in site visits provide supervision, clinical expertise, and enhanced communication.
  • Monitors the overall operation of the resident care department of management company.
  • Performs community reviews in response to operational needs, significant occurrences, and management changes.

 Occupancy Development

  • Reviews and investigates resident/family/responsible party complaints as needed.
  • Monitors compliance with resident rights policies and works to resolve grievances as needed.
  • Leads or participates in an interdisciplinary team to improve the quality-of-care delivery.
  • Works closely with the sales team to assist in initiatives that support occupancy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  •    Knowledge of clinical practice and operational procedures as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines governing functions in assisted living and memory care setting.
  • Strong understanding of assisted living and memory care operations.
  • Strong understanding of EMR/EHR software and/or physician practice management applications.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data.
  • Language Ability:
    • Ability to communicate effectively speaking the primary language of the residents.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Mathematical Skills:
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Cognitive Demands:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered Nurse in good standing, licensed by the state
  • Bachelor-level healthcare degree required; master's preferred
  • (5 or more) years senior living experience in a leadership role
  • BLS Certification
  • Experience in multi-state and multi-community support
